An Indiana Jones Birthday Party! (part 1)

Run Indy, Run!

One of my sons is obsessed with Indiana Jones, so it came as a surprise to absolutely no one when he requested an Indiana Jones party for his fourth birthday.

"Of course!" I said.

How hard can throwing an Indiana Jones party be?

Not very hard, it turns out. As long as you're willing to use your imagination because party goods branded with Indiana Jones are surprisingly difficult to find. Here's how I did it

First, the cake.

This was the easiest part of the party. I found this cake topper set on Amazon -- for $14 you get Indy and the runaway boulder which of course can be used as toys long after the cake has been eaten. (It really works, by the way. You flip a switch at the base and the rock sloowly rolls towards Indy. The kids loved it!)

I took it to the local baker, asked for a half sheet cake simply decorated like a jungle. He charged me $10 over the price of a regular sheet cake because it was so easy to do.

I think that the baker is an Indiana Jones fan too.

I loved the licorice rocks. I'm thinking I can make these myself when the mood strikes:

Tomorrow I'll talk decorations, goody bags and entertainment!
