Set Goals: Everyday Tip #1

What do you want to do in 2012? Take a minute and write it down.

New Year's Resolutions get a bad rap, so don't call it that. What you're doing is setting goals. Or planning. Or daydreaming. It doesn't matter what you call it. Just get it down in writing.

I'm a firm believer in writing things down. I have an awful memory. If I don't write things down, they don't happen. Probably because I simply forget about them, but more likely because I'm making a plan and I like to follow through.

The secret to following through is to make your goals things you enjoy, not what you think you should do.

(Don't plan on punishing yourself. That's silly.)

My goals this year are simple. Get more sleep. Do more yoga. And focus on the type of work I love, which is writing.

What about you? What are your goals?

This year, I'll be posting a daily tip to help you (and me) to live well every day. Be sure to subscribe to the Monday email if you'd like to keep up -- you'll receive one email on Monday mornings with a summary of the previous week's tips and posts.

Of course, you can also keep up by feed reader, twitter and Facebook or just check in every day. I love it when you do.
