I can't believe it's been over a month since I was in NYC with Shot@Life and the United Nations Foundation for the Social Good Summit.

It was a whirlwind of bright people and world-changing ideas -- I was so overwhelmed after it that simply couldn't write about it. It was too much.

I mean, I was sitting mere feet from Susan Rice and Pete Cashmore learning about all the ways that ideas and energy and money and moxie have and can and will change the world.

Pretty heady stuff, but also totally overwhelming for an average person like me.

One of the initiatives we were introduced to was Giving Tuesday, which is TODAY. The idea is simple, which of course makes it brilliant: After Black Friday and Cyber Monday there's Giving Tuesday, the day that kicks off the giving season.

Think about it: The Holidays are about giving, so let's celebrate that in the truest way possible. And it is a way that all of us average folks can participate in. All you have to do is give, and I don't just mean money.

In order to give you some ideas, I thought it would make sense to share some of the amazing people and organizations we met at the Social Good Summit. Perhaps they will inspire you to give?

Devi Thomas from Shot@Life

Maggie Fox from the Climate Reality Project

John Nesbit from Medic Mobile awed us with the amazing things they can do with Nokia phones. How about donating your used technology to save lives? You can do that through hopephones.org

Chrysula Winegar from Million Moms Challenge

Nick Kristof from Half the Sky

And of course, my friends at OneMoms

(I've given to Shot@Life because I truly believe in their cause and to my local PBS station, WGBH.)

Happy Giving Tuesday! Let it be the beginning of a beautiful holiday season!
